Getting Storganized!--Part Two

Yesterday I made my return visit to the Seattle Boat Show to see Theo. During our conversation I began to see Whisper's interior in a new way. I began to see several storage locations in a new way.

THE GALLEY--Provisions in cannisters & boxes on counter tops that go in the sink while sailing so they don't fall to the floor.

The solution was this rack that mounted to the port wall under the cupboard above the refrigerator.

THE CABIN--Above the settee there is overhead space that is never used. While this could be used for paper chart tubes, I chose another solution...
This five jar rack now holds spare batteries, sewing items, light bulbs w electrical connectors & fuses and pens & Sharpies.
THE HEAD--I hadn't even planned on this one, but after my accident prone 2007 (do I hear laughter?), I decided to store bandages, gauze, tape & even sutures where they are air tight and readily available.
The empty area on the forward bulkhead was free space.

With the use of the heavy duty 3M tape there are no screw holes to contend with when either my mind or needs change.THE MAIN CABIN--where it all began. I had underestimated the space that I had on the port side overhead under the weatherdeck.

With three double racks I have lots of storage without compromising the people space on the settee. No one will ever bump their head on these containers. My next task will be to more thoroughly sort my stuff & then label the boxes as to their contents.

I do have a plan for CD jewell cases & DVD boxes. I will use CD paper envelopes for protection & stack them in one of the labelled rack containers. I still have under the nav & salon tables to consider. Last night while turning in I noticed all of the free space in the bedroom overhead...

Enough for now. Now it's your turn to Get Storganized!

Fair winds,

Joe

Getting Storganized!

Clutter? Are you saying that Whisper suffers from clutter? Well she does.
Yesterday at the SEATTLE BOAT SHOW I met Theo Mittet. Theo is a retired architect and active sailor who has crafted a solution to terminal clutter. Once it is up, you have to check out his website at http://www.getstorganized.com/. In the meantime you can see him and his solutions at the Seattle Boat Show.

While I have created extra shelves on Whisper, now I have an easier solution for all of the open areas in the cabin. Under the nav table (at which I never sit), under the salon table and especially under the weather deck on both port & starboard sides offer tremendous storage possibilities.

I went to Fred Meyer and bought a roll of 3M Extra Heavy Duty Exterior Mounting Tape. No screws. The result speaks for itself...

Having flexed my measuring tape, I am ready to go back to the Qwest Field Annex, 2nd floor, to get more boxes from Theo.

Looking forward to uncluttered sailing, I remain
Seafaringly yours,
Skipper Joe
